Welcome to 390052Knight, est. 2008. For as long as I can remember, I have always been passionate about the railways; they are a rich haven of history and technical innovation and have had profound social and economic impacts around the world. This is where I share that passion with you.
I have been a frequent passenger on the British rail network, using it's various types of rolling stock for local and national journeys and have also been a part-time volunteer for the Poulton & Wyre Railway in Lancashire.
I'm not a trainspotter, I'm a rail enthusiast! No different to those who enjoy their cars, motorbikes, gothic culture, ravers, or bird watchers. As a colleague once said, "People go fishing".
As of 2014, I have had other full-time commitments along with the day job which have reduced the amount of time I have to contribute to the channel.

Canals & Trains (a 3D Audio Dog Walk)
Recorded in 2019. I took our wonderful labrador retriever, Kara, out for a nice long walk along a stretch of the towpath of the Leeds-Liverpool canal in West Lancashire. The canal passes the West Lancashire and Manchester to Southport lines and so our walk was conveniently timed to see a couple of trains go by.
This is also the first time I experimented with 3D Audio recording - as a result, the audio in this video is designed more for artistic merit and may seem significantly louder in some parts.

The Trains of Merseyrail (February 2024)
Просмотров 942 месяца назад
It's been quite some time since I've been out filming. But with the withdrawal of the Merseyrail 507s and 508s well underway, I thought I would take a trip out to film old and new. Special thanks to the driver of 777152 for acknowledging my 3 year old son as he said bye to the train. The 507s and 508s are sort of special to me in that I spent some of my late teens enjoying travelling on them wi...
A Virtual Jouney Along the Poulton & Wyre Railway (Train Sim World 4).
Просмотров 532 месяца назад
Thanks to the makers of Train Sim World 4, the Poulton & Wyre Railway line (which I have been member of since 2011) has been immortalised and made drivable again on the PC and xBox. I was delighted to be able to explore this line as was. In this video I took at Class 142 Nodding Donkey along from Poulton-le-Fylde to Burn Naze Halt - this covers the initial route should the line reach a re-openi...

The Montserrat Funicular De Sain Joan Railway, Spain

Whilst in Spain for my summer holiday I couldn't help but get the camera out for the Funicular De Saint Joan railway on Montserrat Mountain. I would like to record more next year. I also saw a couple of Aerial "waterbombers" used for firefighting whilst on the beach. Think of this as your RUclips Postcard!

This is the third in a mini series called "Movie Moments". recovered and re-uploaded scenes in a "Greatest Hits" fashion! This time I have focused mainly on the non-LMS steam locomotives I have had the pleasure of filming over the years... but I had to just add the 8F in toward the end... and a rainy black 5! A few of these were taken whilst I was finding my feet and are thus a bit amateur.

As I have said on a previous video, most of my older footage is a little redundant but I've recovered some of my old films and decided to re upload them in better quality... "Greatest Hits" style! This time it's a portion of my films of LMS locomotives on the mainline. Bare in mind that a few of these were taken whilst I was still finding my feet and thus are a bit amateur!!

Alot of my older footage is perhaps a little redundant (sort of), anyway, I've recovered some of my old films and decided to re upload them in better quality in "Greatest Hits" style! Granted a few of these were taken whilst I was finding my feet and are thus a bit amateur. This is a just an idea - a sort of pilot; I might make more of these in the future! 60103 Flying Scotsman has come to the North West on the Emerald Isle Explorer (London - Holyhead) still wearing her Cathedrals Express sign. The service trains were filmed after Scotsman had left but I thought I would put (nearly) all of them in first. Oh and I just had to put in some out takes; Remember your fellow photographers!

It's been a long time; but having had a great opportunity to watch the steam trains again, I am pleased to upload a new video. The Tin Bath (Preston-Manchester-Sheffield & Return) returns home to Preston. As the day fades in to night, the two steam locos are uncoupled and move off one by one. Sadly I couldn't film the diesel hauling the train away; but I had to board a class 156 home! Additiona...

In this video I am given a chance to recover from some "deep stalls" in the 737; albeit deliberately triggered by dangerous flying. Thanks to Matt who was instructing me throughout the session. which DMU came as 3 cars with the 2 end cars having the motors and the exhausts ran up the gap in between to the roof? (used to be on the Oxford - Banbury route in BR times.)
Can't wait for new railway 😊
beeching? he produced a report, the labour party closed all the lines inc many not on beechings list. this continued until the tories got in again in 1970,
Is this particular 108 up and running now
It has undergone more thorough repairs than what is seen in the video and is able to run. It just needs to actually be placed on the Poulton & Wyre Railway itself. Its currently at the (disconnected) repair site near Burn Naze.
@@390052Knight Oh great to hear! I hope this brilliant unit is back in action soon
At least some were preserved
This is what sparked a lot of heritage lines.
How about the poulton end, near the old junction, now disconnected, that was or still is absolutely full of bushes. And at least your line still has track, unlike some lines waiting to be preserved, and good quality track at that, with heavy flat bottom rails and concrete sleepers with pandrol fasteners.
At the time of filming, the PWR weren't authorised to go towards, our remit stopped a few yards south of Thornton Station. Only a few years later were we allowed to go up to the bridge in Fleetwood or down towards the Poulton end. Work does go on now round the corner from where the junction use to be.
@@390052Knight How will you manage now without a network connection? Have you got any usable or serviceable rolling stock already on the line? I see not only have network rail disconnected your line but they've even gone and stuck a mast right in the way. And I see you've got a small steam loco in a yard without any track, so it looks like you could do with a small siding there. And I know how seriously hard it is lifting track without any machines, as I've done it myself on a labour gang back in the 80's removing old coal yard sidings which weren't being used any more. And fiddler's ferry power plant has closed now and there's some good quality track there which might become available as it's not being used any more.
That back breaking bush clearing should be done by yobs on community payback. And that's a laborious way of spraying weeds, it's much easier with a pump & spray back pack.
It was indeed laborious. At the time the number of people licenced to use the higher strength weed killer was very small so fluid and pumps were few and far between. This was a short term stop gap

Update.......2020.!
If we ever get out of Lockdown I will record another video. Some updates are on the Poulton & Wyre Railway Facebook page.
less us forget labour ministers closed lines long after beeching reurned to ICI
was reckonby some the cuts only saved around 1.7 million which was enough money to build 2k of motrway a few years later
good video
Would love to know how this has turned out!
It's in 3 pieces with each car on separate panels of track. The line itself is no nearer opening.

Instead of axing these railways and the Age of Steam, should have tied him to the tracks to be ran over by one? Typical of his sort, lining their own pockets?
That same year earlier in the year when 73129 had her last run. :(
Nice one 👍
Loads of hard work gone into your project nice one 👍
What rail vehicle were you using ?
We only had a manual PWay trolley at the time; hence the viewing angle is so low
2000 miles on the clock , only used by a vicer to get to church on sundays honest govenor
Whens the next episode.
1963: The end of the line Richard Beeching's brief as chairman of the British Transport Commission was simple: "Make the railways pay". British Rail was losing £140m a year when Dr Beeching took over the commission. His solution, announced on 27 March 1963, was equally straightforward - massive cuts. The Conservative government welcomed the report, but thousands of people - many in remote rural areas - were horrified they would lose their local branch lines. Opposition from the pressure groups failed and during the 1960s "Beeching's Axe" fell on 2,128 stations and more than 67,000 British Rail jobs.
My God!!! Look at the age of the men doing all the work!!! They have to be retired!!!! Where is all the young men say 18 to 40!!!!!!!! Why are they not out there by the dozens working on them. The white working class??????
biggest mistake br ever made going to deisels and dare i say it with out feeling sick electrifiying to late ive just chucked all over beeching good job as well [bastard]
2:56 .....
So was this locomotive finished up and put back into service
It'll never get put into service. The Leyland shutter they restored hasnt been near the track either.
They'll never run it, just like the line will never be reopened either. It's all a pipedream
Deisel:ewwwwwwwwww Steam:biutiful
Well done lads, fair dues to the lot of you.
Aleast The Bluebell Railway,The Tallylyn Railway And The Festinog Railway Exists Before The Beeching Axe.
😇🤣
Excellent video greetings from United States!
Really washing is considered restoration
This is just one small step in the restoration process. The original plan was to create extra video updates as time goes by; unfortunately circumstances don't always permit this.
The devastating after effects of the Beeching closures are still being felt even now.
labour closed the lines beeching had no power
Close all rail and turn into roads
What year?
Dec. 2017---Talk about self serving individuals and screwing Joe Public. Ranks right up there with the 1957 White Paper which basically gutted their military and aircraft companies.
What a superb video and hard work on the clean up. It tells a story as it goes along. On the subject of Poulton and Railway tracks etc please allow this video ruclips.net/video/8XyviUn59QY/видео.html as it is of interest to those who see yours too. If you add a comment and post a link to this video, of course it will stay up. :) Jane
Should have purchased an HST when they get taken out of service.I know they will cost a lot more.it would be amazing to see an HST on this route as I live in Blackpool.
An HST would only ever more about 150 yards in each direction on the length of track they have access to.
@@1701_FyldeFlyer as a volunteer i can confirm this.
3:47 Spot the Rambler American convertible - next to the Mk1 Cortina estate. What's that doing there?
Rusting and falling to bits, most likely!
not if i have any thing to do with it steam rules ok.
Good luck to the Poulton and Wyre on their DMU restoration. A classic will roll again.
Doesn't look in to bad condition after a good scrub
in the usa the usa really started the diezelation in the 30s but didnt really take over steam untill the 50s. some lasted untill the late 60s however
I feel sick watching locos being cut up. I think that I might make a working modern steam train. Well if I could.
+TrainFan56 I have some advice for you then. Join one of the groups which are building modern steam engines eg Tornado etc There are lots to choose from them. Donate all your pocket money to them, and all your income. You will soon realise what a bottomless pit of waste and money it is. It's easier to make money from scrapping locos than it is building new ones, in fact building new ones, you will *lose* all your money.
Don't think you could know you can
I remember watching this video in History Class back in secondary school. The railfan in me felt uplifted then.
he was a hit man allright he murderd the railways railways that should have not been closed s,d gcr smj northampton to bedford ,wellingborough ,mkt harborough to northampton. and many in devon cornwall, somerset, norfolk, ect.
I agree the closures went too far but it wasn't all Beeching's fault, the railways were hemorrhaging money at the time and the likes of Marples thought they were finished. Would we have had as many preserved railways if the report hadn't happened?
2:56 Shouldn't you be helping to clean the DMU? Less of that horse play.
